SYNAPTIC Awards for Excellence in Seamless Mobility

In spring 2011 the 4 Interreg IVB Northwest Europe projects joined forces to establish a project cluster. One main aim of this cooperation consists in influencing future EU-policy with respect to promoting seamless transport solutions. Within this framework the Synaptic partnership will highlight European best practices which deliver outstanding innovation in the area of seamless and sustainable mobility in Europe.
The SYNAPTIC awards will serve as a catalyst for innovative action in the field of urban and regional transport in European cities and regions, and the sharing of innovative practices.

Awards will be granted in the following three categories:
1. The best multimodal door-to-door solution
2. The best public transport solution
3. The best development process or implementation of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan

All European mobility projects that fit into one of the above three categories are eligible for entry in the SYNAPTIC awards competition. An innovative character, cost effectiveness, level and quality of stakeholder involvement, sustainability, impact on climate and appropriateness to the local context are the key criteria for being awarded. Furthermore all entries will be benchmarked against the criteria identified as success factors for implementing seamless mobility solutions and related advanced IT.
To be eligible for the SYNAPTIC awards, case studies must have been submitted to the ELTIS European database for the inaugural round between 1 January 2011 and 31 January 2012. The second round will follow between 1 February 2012 and 31 January 2013.
Entries will be judged on 24-26 April in Breda. Jury members will be ambassadors of the SYNAPTIC vision for seamless mobility in Europe, making the jury discussion important for policy making.
The presentation of the SYNAPTIC awards, with ceremony, is expected to take place at the ECOMM conference in Frankfurt, 12-15 June 2012.
Additionally, a People’s Choice award will be conducted through online voting on the SYNAPTIC website, accessed both directly and through a link from the ELTIS website.
More information about the synaptic awards will be promoted Europe-wide through the ELTIS web portal and the SYNAPTIC website.
